The JSC «SOYUZ Power Development Corporation» is a general contractor, specializing in designing and turnkey construction of heat generation facilities (EPC/EPCM).
The project of a blast furnace gas recovery power plant for the ferrous industry is implemented for the first time since the USSR. The station will increase energy independence of the steel mill from external power sources, simultaneously solving the problem of blast-furnace gas disposal in volume up to 360 thousand cubic meters per hour, decreasing noxious emissions into the atmosphere down to the admissible level. The use of blast-furnace gas for heat and electricity generation allows the steel mill to save more than 260 tons of reference fuel per year. Most of the project was financed on account of loans funds. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRR) has granted a loan to finance the project in the amount of 125 million euros. The high efficiency of investments of Novolipetsk Steel into construction of the new power plant is provided not only by use of blast-furnace gas at the blast furnace gas recovery power plant, but also due to low figures of fuel-consumption rate during electricity and heat generation. The self-cost of electricity at the steel mill, after commissioning of the blast furnace gas recovery power plant is subsequently lower, than the market one. The electric power of the station is 150 MW, heat power – 115 Gcal. The main equipment (boiler, turbine, generator) is of Russian production, it was created especially for the blast furnace gas recovery power plant of Novolipetsk Steel. The project won a prize of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as an example of energy conservation strategy and innovative environmental protection technology, which can be adapted to other metallurgical production on the territory of the CIS countries.
